This subject is difficult to talk about,
but I see so many people that have benefited
from talking to others about their experiences with this.
Not sure if I have discussed this in the past,
but my amazing grandmother (Mamaw)
has cancer.
She's been battling cancer for quite some time,
and was first was spotted when she had shooting pain in her back and swollen lymph nodes.
When we all got the news,
we were devastated,
heart broken,
and left wondering why such an amazing person,
could be left with something so awful.
But not Mamaw...
Mamaw has had the most positive and strong attitude through it all.
Through chemo,
through the nausea,
through the pain.
Every step of the way.
The process has been a complete roller coaster.
Still my Mamaw had the most positive and wonderful attitude.
This wasn't going to bring her down.
She's a fighter,
and after raising 5 kids,
nothing was going to get her down.
My Grandfather through it all has been strong and more than supportive.
He's been there for every treatment,
every nurse's visit,
every ache and pain,
every step of the way.
When Mamaw was losing all her hair from chemo treatments my Grandfather and her shaved their heads together.
This was the picture they had sent all of us.
How cute are they?
He gives her so much love and strength.
Strength that only God knows how to give him.
But after several chemo treatments,
extremely strong medication,
and many days in hospitals,
Mamaw decided this wasn't how she was going to keep living.
She doesn't want to spend the remainder of her time,
in and out of hospitals,
hooked up to IV's,
and sick from treatments.
So although it is tough.
We have supported her since then.
It has been a few months since she has made that decision.
And each day that goes by we just thank God,
that he has given us more time with her.
Their strength and resilience throughout this journey,
has been inspiring.
Their love for each other,
has been heart-warming.
And their faith in God,
has been moving.
I love you Mamaw and Grandpa!
You two are amazing individuals!
Oh that is heartbreaking and inspiring all at the same time. What a cute pair of grandparents!! Cancer sucks (biggest understatement of the year).
ReplyDeleteAll the best for your Mamaw! She seems to be a real great lady! It's awful to see how many people suffer from cancer, but all the same it's encouraging to see their power to just go on! Thank you for sharing your deepest thoughts with us.
