Live For Today

Today at church I met someone exactly like me...
She planned out her entire life out months in advance,
she had a list of everything she needed to do every day,
and she made sure she was prepared for everything.

Then one day she woke up with cancer.
Something she didn't plan for.
Something that got in the way of all her other plans.
And there was nothing she could do about it.

This is me completely,
I plan everything months and months in advance.
I'm sure I drive Justin crazy,
because I plan vacations (among many other things),
8 months in advance.
I mean we already know our plans for Christmas...
Believe me,
I know it's July.

Now I don't have cancer,
but my son wasn't exactly a planned event.
And it makes you evaluate all your other plans.
It changed everything I thought I was going to do.

This lady in church today was so inspirational,
because she said that,
at some point you just have to stop planning,
trust in God,
and just Live For Today.

That was the most freeing advice I've ever received.
Scary but very true.
Sometimes we just need to let go,
and trust that God has our best interests at heart.

  5. What a beautiful and uplifting post. I too am a little OCD with planning things out. My little man was not necessarily "unexpected" we just had some health issues that we thought were going to prolong the baby process for us. But aparently God had other plans in mind for my little family. And here we are and 5 weeks away from being a family of three! This is a great wake up call to everyone ... that things dont always go as you've planned then ... they go the way God wants them to go. Which usually is way better. :)

  9. i love this. my dad was a 44 year old non-smoking, healthy man who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in october 2011. he passed away in january of this year. it wasn't his death that showed me that i needed to appreciate life so much more, but the way he lived. he was a truly amazing man and he lived more in his short 45 years than more people did in a lifetime.

    p.s. you look so cute!
